CUTTACK: A lower court here on Saturday delivered the judgment in the fake currency note preparation case of 2001 in which a college teacher and his wife were arrested. While the teacher, the mastermind behind it, along with five others was convicted, the court exonerated the teacher’s wife and four others in the case. All the convicted persons were sentenced to 0 years of RI on two counts each and four years of RI on another charge. All the sentences would run concurrently, the additional district session court of Ghanashyam Panigrahy ordered. All 11 accused in the case were arrested seven years ago when police raided the lecturer Nilambar Baral’s house in Madhusudan Nagar of the city on November 22, 2001. Baral had set up a small unit in his house and was preparing fake currency notes. Huge quantities of counterfeits along with papers used for making notes and other materials were seized from his house. Police had also seized a computer and printing machines from the house. Baral and his wife Sandhyarani were arrested on the spot while other accused persons, including a native of MeghalayaNirmal Timung were arrested subsequently. The court held Baral, Timung and four others Pranab Maity, Hafeez Ghulam Rabani, Nrushingha Charan Mallick and Bhramarbar Sahu guilty.
