BJS to contest all seats

Correspondent

CUTTACK: The newly formed Bharatiya Jana Shakti (BJS) party in Orissa has decided to contest all the 147 Assembly seats in the forthcoming elections alone and has ruled out any pre-poll alliance. The party has however, kept its options open for post-poll alliance to honour the people’s mandate.

The newly formed party’s State unit chief Arvind Dhali speaking to the newsmen here on Saturday said that his party has already formed its district committees in the State and claims that the party has over two lakh members in Orissa. "We would launch a massive membership drive after the party’s national chief Uma Baharati’s visit to the state in October", Dhali said.

Mr. Dhali has also suggested the idea for setting up "Vidhan Parishad" in the State as is in practice in certain other States of the country. He opined that the legislative council in the State like that of Rajya Sabha would ensure proper check and balance in governance. He also indicated that it is high time that eminent persons in fields other than politics should come forward to be part of the government.

"It can be possible through legislative council in which persons from other fields could be nominated as members of legislative council (MLC) and can contribute immensely to form an active and progressive government", Dhali, a former state minister said.

Expressing concern over poor healthcare facilities, particularly about the dismal doctor-patient ratio, Dhali said the government should come forward to open few more government medical colleges in the state so as to meet the shortfall of doctors in the State.
