First mobile court in Punjab to be launched on October 2

Chandigarh: The first mobile court in Punjab would be inaugurated at Talwara in Hoshiarpur district by Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court Vijender Jain and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The concept of mobile court was aimed at taking the justice closer to the people so that those living in remote areas would be able to benefit without incurring expenditure on travelling, a government spokesman said today. The decision to introduce a mobile court at Talwara was taken because of its location and backwardness of the area.

The mobile court would take up cases at four centres namely Jandwal, Talwara, Hazipur and Kamahi Devi and would be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday every week on the basis of rotation beginning from October four to October 30.

The spokesman also said that on Wednesday and Saturday, the presiding officers would hold the regular court at Dasuya.

The court would also take cognisance of criminal cases on the basis of police reports or criminal complaints. The hearing of the cases would be just like a regular court, the spokesman added.
