Onion in short supply

New Delhi: Heavy rains in Nasik and Pune in Maharashtra have led to a short supply of onions in the national Capital, making them out of the reach of for many consumers. “The price of onion is escalating mainly due to severe shortage in supply from Nasik and Pune,” Braham Yadav, Chairman of Delhi Agriculture Marketing Board, told PTI here. Currently onion is being sold at Rs 24 to Rs 28 per kg in the retail market. The demand for onion in the city is usually over 1,000 tonnes everyday but as the arrival is merely 700 tonnes due to short supply from Maharashtra, he said. The onion belt in Rajasthan too was submerged in water for the last few days, adversely affecting the supply. - PTI
