JD(S) fancies its chances in Hassan

HASSAN: The Janata Dal (Secular) hopes to win at least 25 of the 35 seats in the Hassan City Municipal Council, said former Rajya Sabha member H.K. Javare Gowda, who was in charge of the party’s campaign.

Mr. Javare Gowda told The Hindu here on Saturday that development work undertaken by the H.D. Kumaraswamy-led coalition Government, in Hassan city, was proof enough of its administrative abilities. In addition, Public Works and Energy Minister H.D. Revanna had campaigned in all 35 wards in two stages.

He said that in about eight to 10 wards, the Congress had given the Janata Dal (S) a tough fight, but his party would come to power on its own.

The former Minister B. Shivaram, who was in charge of the Congress campaign in the district, said the party was confident of winning at least 10 to 12 seats in the Hassan City Municipal Council.

He expressed confidence in the party’s ability to get a majority in the Arasikere Town Municipal Council and the Alur Town Panchayat.

The Congress would improve its position in Belur, Sakleshpur and Chennarayapatna, he said.

Mr. Shivaram said the elections were conducted impartially in Hassan city and other places.
