PUDUKOTTAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi laid the foundation stone and declared open 279 buildings, classrooms and other infrastructure facilities here on Friday.
He also inaugurated the fifth phase of distribution of free two acre land and free house site pattas. The total outlay for the above programmes is Rs.206.67 crore -- including Rs.172.91 crore for 4,375 works to be taken up this financial year and Rs.24.78 crore for 279 works completed so far. In all, 1,163 landless agricultural labourers got free land of 855.88 acres valued at Rs.1.46 crores while house-site pattas worth about Rs. 1.19 crore were distributed to 2,321 beneficiaries.
Under the ‘social security scheme,’ cash relief of Rs. 38.71 lakh was disbursed to 404 persons.
