Remark against minorities triggers tension

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY: The police resorted to lathicharge to quell a mob which gathered in front of the Brucepet police station demanding the arrest of a person who had made disparaging remarks against the minority community.

Probhibitory orders have been clamped on Brucepet, in Brucepet police station limits, Kashinath Pawar, Assistant Commissioner told The Hindu.

Tension prevailed near Benki Maramma temple when a large number of people belonging to minority community staged a dharna to protest against Seena who allegedly abused their community. They demanded his arrest.

Later, the scene shifted from Benki Maramma temple to Brucepet police station with the minority community reiterating its demand.

The police once again put in all efforts to persuade the mob and asked them to file a complaint but there was no consensus among the minority community leaders.
