Task norms to calculate wages reduced

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has reduced the task prescribed for calculating wages under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) by 10 per cent in addition to the 20 per cent reduction introduced recently to provide benefit to labourers.

The NREG Act provides for payment of minimum wages to labourer for seven hours’ work in a day. The ratio between the work performed and the task prescribed is to be arranged in such a manner that the minimum wages are ensured.

An official release stated here on Saturday that despite a reduction by 20 per cent in the task norms introduced recently, women and old labourers were not getting the minimum wages.

Taking into account the hardship of these sections, the State Government has further reduced the task by 10 per cent.

A total of 30 per cent reduction in the task will be brought into effect from the fortnight beginning October 1.
