Panel for closure of 4 treatment plants

Special Correspondent

VELLORE: The Tamil Nadu Assembly Assurances Committee led by Panrutti MLA T. Velmurugan has recommended to the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) closure of four common effluent treatment plants, which did not conform to norms in respect of total dissolved solids content in the treated effluents discharged by them.

“TDS content high”

He was talking to newspersons after a two-day review of steps taken by government departments on fulfilling assurances given to the people here on Friday. Mr. Velmurugan said during a visit to treatment plants under the control of District Environmental Engineer, Vellore, the committee found that the TDS content in the effluents discharged into the Palar was between 7,000 ppm and 8,000 ppm as against the accepted 2,100 ppm.
