Poonch limps back to normality

Luv Puri

Poonch: The situation in Poonch was getting back to normal on Saturday, a day after communal clashes broke out following the celebrations over India’s victory in the Twenty20 World Cup final. After Friday prayers, over a thousand people attacked shops and vehicles to enforce a bandh in the town in protest against the bursting of crackers during the celebrations, official sources said.

Shopkeepers resisted the move to close shops, leading to scuffles and stone pelting from both sides, prompting the police to use teargas.

In Rajouri town, over two dozen persons were injured in communal clashes.
