Ganguly to undergo scan on Sunday

BANGALORE: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said Sourav Ganguly would undergo an MRI scan on Sunday for a hamstring strain.

He expected Ganguly, who suffered the injury while fielding, to recover soon.

On the prospect of resuming play after the heavy downpour, the Indian captain replied there was only a thin line between bravado and foolishness.

Area of concern

He admitted that when the pitch did not offer assistance in terms of seam movement and bounce, the Indian pacemen have struggled.

“This is an area we have to look into,” he said. He had been asked a specific question on Australia’s recovery after being rocked early on.

Dhoni said the think-tank would consider playing two spinners in the future games.

Adam Gilchrist revealed he and his team were ready to play after the long rain delay but the umpires and the match referee felt the game could not continue because of the ground conditions.

Australia’s stand-in captain was pleased with his side’s recovery from a precarious situation.

“We fought back well and it’s not that the Indians bowled badly.”

Pat for Haddin

He gave a lot of credit to Brad Haddin for the manner he batted. “Some think he is only a wicketkeeper but he showed today (on Saturday) that he can be played as a specialist batsman. We are good friends, and I keep giving him suggestions.”

Michael Clarke acknowledged the contributions of Haddin and James Hopes in the Australian recovery.

Happy hunting ground

Clarke said it was nice to have made a hundred at a venue where he notched up a Test hundred on debut in 2004, but added he would have been happier had Australia won.
