Two Bangalore engineers get bail

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday granted bail to two Bangalore-based engineers — 32-year-old Mohammed Yaseen and 31-year-old friend Shaji Yusuf — in an abduction and extortion case.

The court granted bail to the two on furnishing a bond of Rs. 25,000 with two sureties of a like amount each.

The prosecution had alleged that Yaseen had kidnapped a Delhi-based doctor Madhumita Mishra to extort money and that he had enticed the doctor to a madrasa in Bangalore to extort money from her. The two, it said, had come into contact through social networking website Orkut four months ago.

The police lodged the FIR on a complaint by the husband of the doctor, Subijay Sinha, who is also a doctor.

The couple had an estranged relationship.

The prosecution stated that Yaseen had contacted Dr. Mishra’s sister Rachna and demanded a ransom of Rs. 10 lakh.
