Suchithra Visweswaran Kochi: Suchithra Visweswaran, Mohiniyattom dancer, performed ‘Poothana Moksham’ at Melpathur Auditorium in Guruvayur recently. The lyrics were from the original “Kathakali padham - Poothana Moksham” with modification in “ragas” and inclusion of three additional “slokas”. Ms. Visweswaran was accompanied by vocalist Nedumpilly Rammohan, Panavally Vijaykumar on the violin, Thripunithura Shyam K. Menon on mridangam, Thripunithura Ajith on the flute , Kalamandalam Sasi on ‘madhalam’, and Thripunithura Hari on ‘edakka.’ The performance was appreciated due to combination of extreme ‘bhavas’ – ‘lasya’ with respect to Lalitha and ‘roudhra’ with respect to Poothana. Suchithra will be given an award by Kaladarpanam – (Art & Cultural Movement of India) on October 3. Earlier, she had presented the Sanskrit text ‘Narayaneeyam,’ as a Mohiniyattom recital at Guruvayur. Melpathur Bhattathiri had written ‘Narayaneeyam’ as an offering to Guruvayurappan for getting rid of rheumatism. Offering to GodMs. Visweswaran also had to take to bed for six months following a knee problem. She took to reading ‘Narayaneeyam’ and resolved to render it in Mohiniyattom if her knees got better.
