Representatives of all bar associations attend the meet Action committee formed to decide future course of action BERHAMPUR: Members of all bar associations in eight districts of south Orissa would boycott court on Oct 11 demanding establishment of a permanent bench of Orissa High Court for south Orissa in Berhampur.It was decided at a meeting of the South Orissa Lawyers’ Association held in the city on Sunday. This meeting was convened by the Ganjam Bar Association, which is spearheading this agitation for establishment of a bench of Orissa High Court for the benefit of people of south Orissa. Representatives all major Bar associations of Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Nowrangpur, Kandhamal and Boudh districts attended this meeting. They also decided to join hands with the lawyers of western Orissa who are demanding a high court bench in their region. ResolutionsAccording to president of the Ganjam Bar Association Sudhansu Panda till now 10 bar associations of Ganjam district and Parlakhemundi Bar association have passed resolutions in support of the demand. Rest of the bar associations also agreed to pass similar resolutions to strengthen the demand. There are 29 associations insouth Orissa. The associations are sending their resolution copies in support of demand for a high court bench in Berhampur to the Central Government, State Government, Orissa High Court and Supreme Court. On Sunday an Action Committee of South Orissa Lawyers’ Association was formed todecide upon the future course of action. This Committee has 116 members. "It would sit for another meeting on Oct 28 in the city. By that time the bar associations would try to garner support of respective local elected leaders towards the high court bench demand," said Manoj Patnaik, general secretary of Ganjam Bar Association. Senior lawyers like president of Rayagada Bar Association Nilakantha Das felt the lawyers of south Orissa should coordinate with the lawyers of western Orissa who are continuing agitation demanding a high court bench in their region. Aswini Patnaik of Koraput bar association was of the opinion that without opening of high court benches the dream of taking law to the common people can never be fulfilled.
