All-India Rajbhasha awards for five Oriya writers

BERHAMPUR: Five prominent Oriya writers, Shanakar Lal Purohit, Pratibha Satpathy, Brajanath Rath, Rajendra Prasad Mishra and Manorama Biswal Mohapatra would be conferred Rashtriya Sahitya Samman at the 20th All India Rajbhasha Sammelan to be held at Gopalpur from Oct 2.

Speaking at a press conference in the city on Saturday, Swadesh Bharati, chairman of the Rashtriya Hindi Academy, which is organising the conference informed that Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Virbhadra Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Central Hindi Institute, Agra, Ramsharan Joshi, Chairman of Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology K.Bijay Kumar would be awarded Visishtha Hindi Seva Samman at this national conference.

Pushpita Awasthy, a Hindi poet from Netherlands, would also be hounoured with Rashtriya Sahitya Samman at this conference. Sixteen Government departments and public sector undertakings have been selected for National Millenium Rajbhasha Shield Award and Rajbhasha Patrika Shield Award.

Focus on IT

The three-day conference would be spread over nine sessions with emphasis on Information Technology (IT) and development of Hindi and Indian Languages.

Till date Rashtriya Hindi Academy has played a significant role in the promotion of Hindi and other Indian languages for strengthening emotional and cultural integration of the country.

It had played a major role in getting Nepali, Konkani and Manipuri languages included in the Eighth Schedule of Constitution, said Mr Bharati.

During 2007 the Academy has decided to publish Hindi translations of contemporary poetry in Indian languages like Oriya, Telugu, Tamil, Malyalam, Kannad and Konkani.

It is also producing films on life of Rabindranath Tagore, Subramanyam Bharati and Fakir Mohan Senapati, he said.
