Recognition: Recipients of Dr. Radhakrishnan Best Teacher Award during the function held in their honour in Pudukottai.

PUDUKOTTAI: Speakers at a function to honour the recipients of Dr. Radhakrishnan Best Teacher Award organised by the Pavendar Bharathidasan Ilakkiya Peravai here on Saturday underlined the role of teachers in building a society free from the ills of caste, creed and language barriers.

They said that teachers should also play a key role in motivating the students to develop the habit of reading books. Sri Ponnambala Adigalar of Kundrakudi Adheenam said that teachers had a great responsibility in creating a casteless society. Without confining to academic responsibilities, they should be a source of inspiration and imbue a sense of self-confidence among students. The president of the Peravai S. Subbiah said that this was the fourth year in succession that the Peravai was honouring the recipients of Best Teacher awardees hailing from the district. Honouring of teachers would go a long way in not only recognising their services but also act as a catalyst for bringing out the best in them in future for the benefit of the student community. The secretary of the Peravai, Thangam Moorthy, said that education was the key to achieving overall socio-economic development.

An educationist M. M. Abdulla, the Principal of the J. J. College of Arts and Science, J. Parasuraman, the Correspondent of Venkateswara Polytechnic College P. Karuppia and Rev. Fr. A. Philominraj offered felicitations.

A teacher M. Balasubramanian, who delivered the acceptance address on behalf of the awardees honoured on the occasion, said that the honour would further enhance their responsibilities both in imparting quality education and in shaping the career of the student community.
