NAMAKKAL: The Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women in association with the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan will launch a project to educate the self-help group (SHG) members in five panchayats in the district on October 3. A press release said that members would be provided basic education that would help them to carry out income-generation activities effectively. In Namakal district, a total of 50 panchayats were selected based on their performance to implement the project.
In the first phase, the project would be implemented in Unjanai, Molipalli, Kadachanallur, Elanthakuttai and Kodikkalputhur panchayats in the district. Two volunteers would be selected in each panchayat to conduct classes. They would educate SHG members in batches, using the activity based learning method currently employed by the SSA in the primary schools.
Classes would be held in the nearby school building or in the SHG building. All the 50 panchayats would be covered within one year, the release said. The release further said that the Ranganaickanpalayam SHG received the Manimekalai award in the State level. Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin handed over the cash award of Rs. 50,000 to the SHG at a function held in Chennai recently. The award was announced to encourage panchayat-level federations and SHGs to perform better. The Government would select five federations and 10 SHGs in the state level based on their performance for the award.
