Din over Plus Two seat shortage

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: A meeting of the District Development Council held at the Collectorate here on Saturday fell into a turmoil over the issue of the shortage of higher secondary seats in the district.

MLAs from the district, including Abdurahman Randathani and Mohammedunni Haji, attacked the government for its failure to provide Plus Two education facility for over 30,000 students in the district even after classes began some weeks ago.

Mr. Randathani, when told by the representative of the Deputy Director of Education (DDE) that his office was not aware of the number of Plus Two seats additionally required for Malappuram, alleged that the Education Department had failed to intimate the government of the seat shortage.

“No authority seems to have officially informed the government of the number of additional seats required for the district even weeks after the classes began,” he said.

Mr. Randathani said that hundreds of Plus Two seats were yet to be filled in southern districts like Pathanamthitta and Idukki while Malabar was reeling under severe shortage of seats.
