JD(S), BJP win five seats each in Virajpet

Congress secures four seats in the town panchayat

Independents have bagged two seats


Madikeri: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (Secular) have won five seats each while the Congress trailed them by winning four seats in the elections to the 16-ward Virajpet Town Panchayat, the results of which were announced on Sunday.

Independents have won two seats, according to official information here.

Winners

The winners from the BJP are: H.U. Savita from ward No. 2, M.B. Katti Poonacha from ward No. 4, B.M. Kumar from ward No. 9, Umavathi from ward No. 13 and Kootanda Suresh Appaiah from ward No. 15.

Winners from Janata Dal (S) are: Jareena Noor in ward No. 5, Moinuddin in ward No. 7, P.M. Tara from ward No. 11, Kallira Kaveramma from ward No. 12 and Mariya Sequeira from ward No. 14.

Names of the candidates who have won from Congress ticket are: M.K. Poovaiah, former president of the panchayat from ward No. 1, B.K. Chandra from ward No. 3, M.A. Madan Aiyanna from ward No. 10 and Satish V.K. from ward No. 16. The two independents who have won are S.H. Matheen from ward No. 6 and M.S. Kousar from ward No. 8.

Kushalnagar

The Congress has come out as the single largest party by winning six seats in the 13-ward Kushalnagar Town Panchayat to which elections were held for the first time, since it was upgraded into a town panchayat recently.

The BJP candidates, by emerging victorious in as many as six wards, stole the show in the 11-ward Somwarpet Taluk Panchayat.
