BJP wins four civic bodies in Haveri

Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (Secular) have succeeded in wresting four civic bodies from the Congress in Haveri district. The results of the elections for the eight civic bodies in the district were announced on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Congress has succeeded in retaining power in three urban local bodies. However, no party has got majority in Shiggaon Town Municipality, where independent candidates are likely to decide which party would come to power.

Except Hangal Town Municipality, where BJP came to power two years ago with the support of some Congress leaders, all the civic bodies in the district were in the hold of Congress. Of the 193 wards in the eight civic bodies, BJP has won in 79 wards. Congress has won in 74 wards. Janata Dal (Secular) in 22 and Samajwadi Party and Janata Party have won in two and one wards respectively.
