Independent candidates shine in Talikot Town Municipal Council

Janata Dal (S) bags Sindagi TMC

Setback for the BJP in Sindagi

BIJAPUR: Except Sindagi Town Municipal Council (TMC), where Janata Dal (Secular) has gained a clear majority, voters have given fractured mandate in other urban local bodies in the district.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the single largest party in the city with 15 seats in the 35-member city municipal council. The Congress, which had 21 members in the previous council, managed to win only 12 seats this time. The JD(S) has one seat and independent candidates have bagged seven seats. Former municipal president Rajesh Deogiri of the BJP, who was allegedly assaulted during polling by a rival group, has defeated his nearest rival from the Congress, Gajanan Choudhary, who is also a former municipal president. Ashok Nyamgonda, who was denied the BJP ticket, has defeated the party’s official candidate Rajashekhar Magimath by a margin of 768 votes. Former municipal president Gulappa Shetgar of the Congress has won. Ravindra Kulkarni of the BJP has defeated former vice-president of the CMC Anwar Jamadar of the Congress.

In the 23-member Sindagi TMC, the JD (S) led by former Minister M.C. Managuli has won 13 seats. The Congress could win only eight. It is a setback to the BJP MLA from Sindagi, Ashok Shabadi, as the party could not open its account in the civic body.

In the 23-member Basavanabagewadi Town Municipal Council, independent candidates have won nine seats. The Congress has emerged as the single largest party with eight seats. The BJP has won five seats and JD (S) one.

The Indi town also threw up hung elected body. In the 23-member Indi TMC, the JD(S) has emerged as the single largest party, followed by the Congress with six seats. Independent candidates have won four seats. The BJP has bagged five seats.

In the 23-member Talikot TMC, independent candidates have won 18 seats. The rest have gone in favour of the Congress. No party has secured majority in the 23-member Muddebihal TMC. The JD(S) has won eight seats and the Congress six. The BJP has won one seat. Independents have bagged eight seats. Of the 150 seats in six urban local bodies in the district, the Congress has won 45, JD (S) 31, BJP 25, independents 47, and the Samajwadi party one.
