BIJAPUR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged victorious in 10 of the 12 urban local bodies in Bagalkot district. Of the 290 seats in 12 urban bodies, the BJP has won 186. The Congress has bagged 68 and the JD(S) 17 seats. The JD(S) has failed to open its account in four urban local bodies. This has shocked the party leaders because Bagalkot is the hometown of former MLA P.H. Pujar. In the 31-member Bagalkot CMC, the BJP has won 22 seats. The Congress has won two and independents six. The BSP has bagged one seat. In the 31-member Jamkhandi CMC, the BJP has won 16 seats. The Congress and the JD(S) have won 13 and two seats, respectively. In the 31-member Rabkavi-Bahatti CMC, the BJP has won 24 seats. The Congress has bagged five seats and the JD (S) two. In the Mudhol CMC, the BJP has won 19 seats and the Congress seven. The JD (S) has won one. In the 23-member Mahalingpur TMC, the BJP has won 20 seats and the Congress and the JD (S) have bagged one each. One seat has gone in favour of an independent candidate. In the 23-member Terdal TMC, the BJP has won 15 seats. The Congress has won six seats and two by independents. In the 23-member Badami TMC, the BJP has bagged 17 seats, and the rest have been shared equally by the Congress and the JD (S). In the 23-member Guledud TMC, the BJP has won 14 seats. Two independent candidates have been elected. The Congress has won seven seats. The BJP has captured power in the 31-member Ilkal CMC by winning 22 seats. The Congress has won seven seats and independents two. In the 16-member Hungund TP, the Congress has won 10 seats. The JD (S) and the BJP have won one and three seats, respectively. Independent candidates have won two seats. In the 16-member Kerur TP, JD(S) has won six seats, followed by the Congress five, BSP one, BJP two and independents two.
