JAIPUR: The progress of projects approved under the Centrally-sponsored Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) in Jaipur and Ajmer-Pushkar cities of Rajasthan was stated to be satisfactory at a review meeting here on Sunday. The Joint Secretary in the Union Urban Development Ministry and the Mission Director, M. Rajamani, presiding over the meeting noted that Ajmer-Pushkar was the first city in the country to access second instalment of JNNURM. “With the authorities adhering to deadlines, some of the projects are likely to be complete before schedule,” he said. The work on first phase of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) is in progress in Jaipur, while works worth Rs.1 crore for urban renewal of the Global Art Square have been completed. Waste managementFor solid waste management in Jaipur city, a project worth Rs.13.19 crore was approved. While the waste processing plant is operational now, the detailed project report for landfill site has been received. Besides, a sewerage project is scheduled to be completed by March 2009.The meeting was informed that the first instalment of Rs.24 crore for the Rs.188-crore Bisalpur drinking water supply project in Ajmer had been spent and the demand for release of second instalment of Rs.51.49 crore had been received from the Centre. Other projects for Jaipur city and Ajmer-Pushkar, such as renewal of Walled City, drainage improvement plan and sewerage system phase-III for Jaipur were also discussed in the meeting. Ajmer planThe participants deliberated on a project formulated for improvement of the area around the historic Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer. State Local Self Government Secretary Manjeet Singh said as many as 12 projects worth Rs.1,618 crore under the JNNURM were under preparation and would be submitted by October-end to the Centre for approval. Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation’s Executive Director Munish Garg said the Centre had sanctioned 29 projects worth Rs.271.35 crore in 27 towns of the State under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT). Of these, projects in seven cities have started with an expenditure of Rs.2.40 crore.
