Washington: India wanted to develop its education sector on priority basis and collaboration with foreign universities will help in the process but there are still some concerns which need to be addressed, Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi said here on Sunday. “The focus is on how to make it (knowledge bank) happen,” Mr. Ravi said at the Embassy of India during a Business Forum featuring prominent members of the Indian-American Community. Sharing expertiseThe Minister suggested that foreign universities can share their expertise with a limited number of universities in India. “We believe that our content and curriculum... will be enhanced by association with quality collaboration,” Mr. Ravi said. However, he added “Education must not look like an industry.... Collaboration with credible universities is good.” Mr. Ravi, who has been in New York in conjunction with the India@60 celebrations interacted with the Indian community business leaders on a variety of issues. Aside from the legal aspects of investments in India, one would have to keep in mind that “the polity is a democracy that operates under the principle of consultation and consensus. “ The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Mr. Ravi pointed out, was proceeding full steam on the issues of the NRI University, on investment facilitation in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry and on manpower issues pertaining to Indians going abroad including the protection of workers. — PTI
