COLOMBO: Two persons have been arrested by the Maldivian authorities for Saturday’s bomb blast in the national capital Male that left 12 foreigners injured. In a statement issued on Sunday, Maldives President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom blamed disgruntled political elements in his country for the blast and vowed to bring to book the culprits behind the incident. The blast is considered a major blow to the country which prides itself as one of the safest destinations in the world for tourists. The blast came weeks after Mr. Gayoom won a referendum to maintain the presidential system of government. The opposition parties have accused the government of rigging the referendum.
