Sethu FC beats Don Bosco FC

Madurai: Sethu Football Club registered a 5-0 win over Don Bosco FC in the Madurai District Football Association ‘A’ division league for the Hi-Tech Arai Trophy here on Sunday.

The results: Sethu FC 5 (Murugappan 3, Nazirudeen, Sundararajan) bt Don Bosco FC 0; Friends FC, Thirumangalam 4 (Murugan 2, Kumar, Rajmohan) bt TVS Soccer Club 0.

Sam Babu XI posts win

At Dindigul, Sam Babu XI (Kodaikanal) beat Majestic CC by 18 runs in the Dindigul District Cricket Association first division league on Sunday.

The scores: Sam Babu XI 168 in 31 overs (Paulraj four for 46) bt Majestic CC 150 in 34.4 overs (John S.D. Devadoss four for 46); Vasantha Sweets CC 208 in 43 overs (N. Vigneswaran 44, T. Devendra Kumar 46) bt RVS Sports Club 163 in 40.2 overs. Second division: Seeni Bala CC 100 in 22.5 overs lost to PSNA TEC 103 for four in 18.4 overs (J. Arun 52 not out). Third division: Harikrishna CC 76 for five in 20 overs lost to Mansur CC 77 for no loss in four overs (N. Muthu 64 not out).

Sri Renuga triumphs

At Theni, Sri Renuga Textile Mills ‘A’ lifted the Sports and Sports Trophy defeating Chinnamanur Cricket Club by five wickets in the final of the super sixes cricket tournament on Sunday.

The scores: Final: Chinnamanur CC 57 for four in six overs lost to SRTL ‘A’ 58 for no loss in 5.4 overs (S.P. Saravanakumar 36). Semifinals: SRTL ‘B’ 42 in five overs lost to Chinnamanur CC 43 for three in 4.2 overs; CPA (Bodi) 61 in six overs lost to SRTL ‘A’ 64 for four in 5.2 overs.

Special awards: Batsman: Dinesh Kumar (Chinnamanur CC); Bowler: Edward Pushparaj (Chinnamanur CC); All-rounder: S.P. Saravanakumar (SRTL ‘A’).

Sundar shines

At Tirunelveli, an unbeaten half-century by Sundar helped National Engineering College defeat Thiagarajanagar CC by eight wickets in the Tirunelveli District Cricket Association second division league at Sankarnagar on Sunday.

The scores: Thiagarajanagar CC 92 in 13.4 overs (Manikandan four for 14) lost to National EC 93 for two in 11.4 overs (Sundar 50 not out); Apex CC 156 for six in 20 overs bt Seven Stars CC 133 for seven in 20 overs (Murugan four for 11).

Easy for Mohideen HSS

At Tuticorin, Mohideen HSS (Kayalpatnam) posted an-85-run victory over BMC HSS (Tuticorin) in the TDCA inter-school cricket tournament on Sunday.

The scores: Mohideen HSS 152 for five in 25 overs (M.D. Kabeer 37, Kottairaj three for 23) bt BMC HSS 67 in 17.3 overs; St. Thomas HSS (Tuticorin) 129 in 24.1 overs (Kishore thee for 24) bt Spic Nagar HSS 97 in 24.3 overs (Prem Prabakar 43, Silvester three for 20, Vijay three for 28).

ANJ College wins

At Madurai, Ayya Nadar Janakiammal College (Sivakasi) and Lady Doak College (Madurai) won the men’s and women’s team titles with 71 points and 131 points respectively in the Madurai Kamaraj University inter-collegiate weightlifting competitions on Saturday.

At Ramanathapuram, Alagappa Unversity College of Physical Education (Karaikudi) won the title in the Alagappa University inter-collegiate women’s kabaddi tournament at Kilakarai on Saturday.

The results: Final: AUCPE bt Seethalakshmi Arts College (Pallathur) 34-21. Semifinals: Seethalakshmi Arts College bt TBAK College (Kilakarai) 35-21; AUCPE bt Alagappa Govt. Arts College 34-9.
