Shreepad and Dara qualify

Bangalore: Dara Chinappa and Shreepad Renu of Karnataka Golf Association sealed their place in the South Zone regional final of the McDowell’s Signature club golf championship.

In the tournament for the KGA club members, the first stage of the multi-city event, held at the KGA here on Friday and Saturday, Dara, who tallied 32 stableford points, emerged the winner in the 0-8 category, while Shreepad finished the runner-up with 30 stableford points.

Arun Chopra (39) and P. Sengupta (37) were the winner and runner-up respectively in the 9-16 handicap category.

Peter Rodriques (36) and K. Sameer (35) were the winner and runner-up in the 17-24 handicap section.

The McDowell’s Signature club golf championship 2007 will bring together over 4,500 golfers representing 30 top golf clubs from 20 cities across the country.

The championships will culminate in the grand finale at the Phoenix Golf Course, Pattaya (Thailand), to decide the McDowell’s Signature champion golf club of India.

Apart from the main prize, several exciting spot prizes were on offer to keep every participant enthused.

The straightest drive was won by T. Sukumar. Unfortunately, no one was able to bag the hole in one prize.

The regional final will be played at the Eagleton Golf Resort on October 8. — Special Correspondent
