KOCHI: Thiruvananthapuram’s Medha Roopam bagged three gold medals on her debut in the 40th State shooting championship at Kalmantapam (Palakkad) on Sunday. The 16-year-old, a student of the St. Thomas Central School, won the women’s, junior girls’ and ‘up to Class 12’ gold in the 0.177 peep sight 10m air rifle event. “I just started shooting one-and-a-half months ago,” said Medha, who is also a promising swimmer. Her younger sister, Abhishri, picked bronze medals in the same event in the sub-junior and up to Class 10 sections. “Both the girls have qualified for the all-India G.V. Mavlankar championship in Agra in October,” said National coach, Sunny Thomas. — Principal Correspondent
