Venniskannan clinches title

TIRUCHI: S. Venniskannan of host JJ CET won the 110m hurdles title at the Anna University inter-collegiate (zone-VIII) athletic meet here on Sunday.

The results: Men: 110m hurdles: 1. S. Venniskannan (JJ CET), 18s, 2. R. Dhanapal (PAB CET), 3. A. Antony Prakash (Jayaram CET); Hammer throw: 1. Hoch Minh Jereme (JJ CET), 42m, 2. M. Nandakumar (JJ CET), 3. A. Daniel (Tiruchi EC); Javelin: 1. D. Sudhakar (MAM), 49.06m, 2. N. Kiran Keerthi (JJ CET), 3. Rajeev Raj (Jayaram CET).

Women: 100m hurdles: 1. Usha Rani (MAM), 23.3s, 2. V. Vennila (Jayaram), 3. H. Vishalini (Periyar Maniammai); Hammer throw: 1. A. Susikala (Periyar Maniammai), 2. M. Shanmugapriya (Saranathan), 3. V. Geetha (Saranathan).

Parthiban scalps six

S. Parthiban scalped six wickets as Srirangam Boys HSS defeated St. John Vestry AI HSS by 88 runs and booked a place in the Tiruchi District semifinal league of the TNCA inter-school under-17 cricket tournament for the Boost Cricket Cup here on Sunday.

Alpha Matriculation HSS, Campion AI HSS and RSK HSS has also entered the semifinal league.

The scores: At Tiruchi: Knock-out: Srirangam Boys HSS 177 in 29.5 overs (S.R. Mithun 60, Gleun Joseph three for 36) bt St. John Vestry AI HSS 89 in 16.5 overs (S. Parthiban six for 25); E.R. HSS 93 in 27.3 overs (Lokesh Kannan 34, Aravind three for 22) lost to Alpha Matriculation HSS 95 for four in 21.3 overs (Faisal 31 not out); Campion AI HSS 151 for seven in 30 overs (V. Gowtham 55, Prabhakaran four for 29) bt Zamindar HSS 141 in 27.3 overs (Gopi 45, Jerome five for 18); SBIOA 140 for six in 30 overs (R. Ragavendran 50 not out, P.S. Nirmal Kumar 39) lost to RSK HSS 142 for eight in 28.1 overs (R. Vignesh 41, Mukundan three for 36).

At Pudukottai: Semifinals: TELC 85 in 22 overs (Vijay three for 15, Ramesh three for 16) bt GHSS, Vadagadu 37 in 9.1 overs (Pandian four for 14, Karthik four for 11); Government Model HSS 119 for eight in 25 overs (Selvapandi three for 17) bt Bragadambal HSS 101 in 24.5 overs.

SIGC wins

Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College (SIGC) defeated Seethalakshmi Ramaswamy College (SRC) 19-6 and retained the title in the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate netball tournament for women at UDC on Sunday. For the third place, Cauvery beat H.H. Rajah’s 14-8.

Nest Inn in lead

Nest Inn, a team from Chennai, leads with 67 victory points (VP’s) at the end of the third round of the Swiss League Draw at the R.S. Krishnan Memorial Open Contract bridge tournament, jointly conducted by the BHEL, Tiruchi and Tiruchi District Bridge Association, here on Sunday.
