At horticulture farm set up under free land scheme at Arasapatti
VIRUDHUNAGAR: Collector V. Chandrasekaran inaugurated the drip irrigation system installed at a horticulture farm put up by 32 farmers, all beneficiaries of the “two acre free land” scheme, at Arasipatti near Rajapalayam on Saturday.
The Collector also inspected various facilities created by several departments to improve the economic condition of farmers.
Teak saplings
The Department of Forests distributed 640 teak saplings to farmers. The Collector planted the saplings during his visit.
The 64-acre-land was developed at a cost of Rs.1.20 lakh. Forty acres of land was allotted for horticulture activities.
Borewells sunk
Five deep borewells were sunk at a cost of Rs.3.34 lakh for the purpose. The motor pumps for the borewells have been provided free power supply.
Fruits planted
Mango has been planted in 25 acres and saphota in 15 acres.
The drip irrigation system has been installed at the farm at a cost of Rs.3.11 lakh.
The Agriculture Department has provided inputs at a cost of Rs.10,432.
The Collector promised to give free milch cows to farmers under the Tamil Nadu Housing and Adi Dravida Development Corporation scheme.
Joint Director of Agriculture Gandhi Raja, Personal Assistant to Collector (Agriculture) Valasubramanian, Assistant Director (Agriculture) Pari and Assistant Executive Engineer (Agricultural Engineering) Sakthivel were among those present.
