Spurious IMFL unit busted

PUDUCHERRY: Personnel of the Excise Department, assisted by the local police, on Sunday busted a spurious Indian Made Foreign Liquor-manufacturing unit at Sandhai Pudukuppam, 30 km from here. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Deputy Commissioner (Excise) R. Anbalagan raided the unit located in a desolate place inside a cashew grove. Just as the team entered the grove, the persons involved in the liquor manufacture fled.

The Excise personnel seized 50 cases of liquor bottles and hundreds of empty bottles. Each case had 48 bottles. The team also recovered several cans of arrack and colouring agents, Mr. Anbalagan said.
