Half-eaten bodies found near mortuary

MUZAFFARPUR: Five bodies, half-eaten by stray dogs, and some skeletal remains were found packed in a sack, close to the mortuary of a medical college hospital here, prompting the district administration to order an inquiry.

They were spotted by Bhol Kumar, a local, near the post-mortem room of the Srikrishna Medical College and Hospital.

He informed some TV news channels about it, District Magistrate Vinay Kumar told reporters.

Mr. Kumar asked hospital authorities to hold an inquiry into why the unclaimed bodies were dumped instead of being cremated or buried.

He did not clarify whether any action would be taken against officials of the Ahiyapur police station, for, it was their responsibility to dispose the unclaimed bodies.

After watching the TV news channel footage of the bodies being devoured by dogs, the DM called a press conference and ordered performance of the last rites, for which Rs. 1,000 would be spent on every corpse from patients’ welfare committee funds. — PTI
