Vocational teachers to get pay arrears

Special Correspondent

VELLORE: A total of 689 fully qualified single part-time vocational teachers would be getting the arrears in pay hike following regularisation of their services with effect from the date of the Madras High Court order dated June 24, 2004 instead of the from the date of issuing of the government order dated March 20, 2007.

As per the latest G.O. No.249 dated September 25, 2007, the 689 fully qualified single part-time vocational teachers were granted pay arrears with retrospective effect from March 20, 2007 when the G.O. No.68 was issued in pursuance to the Madras High Court order dated June 24, 2004 directing the government to regularise their services.

But, following a contempt of court petition filed in the Madras High Court by an affected vocational teacher, counsel for the petitioner said the arrears have been granted to similarly placed vocational teachers with retrospective effect from the date of the court order in respect of a different order of the Madras High Court. He therefore prayed the Court to direct the government to make suitable corrections in its order dated March 20, 2007.

Accordingly, the government issued the G.O. no.249 dated September 25, 2007 with suitable corrections to the effect that the 689 single part-time vocational teachers would be getting their pay benefits with retrospective effect from the date of the Madras High Court order (June 24, 2004).

S.N. Janardhanan, State general secretary of the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary School Post-Graduate Commerce Vocational Teachers Association, in a statement, thanked Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, and Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu, and other officials for having issued the revised G.O.
