An extended weekend for techies in State

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: It was the longest weekend for techies in the State and a short break for businessmen as Monday was declared a holiday in view of the general strike observed by the DMK party.

Verdict

Even before the declaration of the verdict by the Supreme Court on the proposed bandh by the State Government, some of the industrial establishments and Information Technologies firms had declared Monday as compensatory holiday.

Bonanza

In fact, it was an unexpected bonanza for the techies, as they had three holidays (Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday) and they had applied for a day’s off on Monday to enjoy the long weekend.

“Most of them have gone out of the State and it is not possible to call them back.

So we have asked them to work the following Saturday to clear the backlog,” said an HR manager of an IT firm.

“We are concerned about the safety of our employees and did not want to risk their lives. Hence, working on an alternative date seemed to be the best available option to us. So we also downed our shutters,” said another HR manager.
