Two youths arrested for NLSIU student’s murder

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Jnana Bharathi police on Monday arrested two youths who had allegedly stabbed to death Alyosha Kumar (23), a final year law student of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), and injured his classmate, Siddarath, on Nagarabhavi Main Road on Saturday midnight.

They have been identified as Sreenivasa (23) of Domlur on Sarjapur Road and Kallesh Gowda (20) of Agrahara Dasarahalli. While Sreenivasa works in a silk weaving unit, Kallesh Gowda works as a construction labourer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) K.V. Sharathchandra told The Hindu.

Sreenivasa and Kallesh Gowda, who were returning home on a scooter after visiting their friend at a hospital, noticed two groups quarrelling near the Kalavati Kalyana Mantap. The two stopped their scooter and tried to settle the quarrel, but some NLSUI students who were involved in the quarrel allegedly punched them, Mr. Sharathchandra said.

An enraged Sreenivasa, who was carrying a knife, allegedly stabbed Alyosha in the chest “at least twice.” When Alyosha collapsed, Kallesh Gowda reportedly grabbed the knife from Sreenivasa and allegedly stabbed the wounded boy and then turned the weapon on to the other student, Siddarth. When the two started bleeding, a scared Sreenivasa and Kallesh Gowda left their scooter and ran away, Mr. Sharathchandra said.

The officer said the incident took place one kilometre away from the NLSUI campus.

There are five entry points to the campus and the policemen man these points from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., he said.

A NLSIU official told The Hindu that Alyosha’s parents, who are abroad, arrived here for the funeral in which several students also attended.
