“Earth on Canvas” is an art campaign for conservation organised by Contemporary Art India and World Wildlife Fund-India (WWF). The exhibition, on up to October 7 at the Capital’s WWF auditorium, explores the boundaries that govern man’s relationship with the land he inhabits. “If we can draw even a fraction of the viewers into a visual dialogue that leads to greater environmental awareness or a greener lifestyle, the purpose of this exhibition would be served, ” said Ravi Singh, Secretary-General and CEO of WWF-India. “We have presented the environmental vision of 84 artists on one theme -- earth and physical space of time called ‘Earth on Canvas’. It is unique that these talented artists have come together to express their concerns through their creative work on the issues of critical environmental challenges we face today,” added Mr. Singh. “Earth on Canvas aims not merely to showcase art but also provides a meeting point where artists and viewers can interact as part of an environmental and world community ,” said Roshmi Raychaudhuri who along with Baidehi Chatterjee has curated the exhibition. Renowned artists who have joined hands in this endeavour include Sunil Das, Paritosh Sen, Prokash Karmakar, Dhiraj Choudhury, Shuvaprasanna, Shipra Bhattacharya, and Babu Xavier. – Bindu Shajan
