PANAJI: A two-day founding conference of the Hotel Employees Federation of India will be held at Arpora in north Goa on October 4 and 5. At the conference, the federation will formally demand that a national commission be constituted to look into the plight of hotel employees and seek remedial statutory provisions. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat will inaugurate the conference on October 4. It will be attended by around 160 representatives of hotel unions. Joint convener of the federation Subhash Naik Jorge said here on Monday, “For the first time, hotel trade unions in the country , irrespective of their affiliations to different Central trade unions, have joined hands to form a federation and bring to focus at the national level the plight of hotel employees, particularly in the unorganised sector.” Contract system“The federation is totally opposed to the ‘casualisation of work force in the hotel industry , contract system of employment and outsourcing,” said Mr. Jorge. The federation intends to take up issues such as lack of job security, need for rationalisation of salary structure, regulation of working hours and availability of facilities and benefits.
