Bottleneck: Traffic on Mahatma Gandhi Road moving at a snail’s pace with the BMRCL putting up barricades for work on the Metro rail project.

BANGALORE: Traffic was affected on Mahatma Gandhi Road, Kensington Road, Ulsoor Road and surrounding areas on Monday as Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) commenced work on Metro rail project near the busy Trinity Circle.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (East) Mallikarjuna Swamy said that with the BMRCL barricading a portion of the road, there was room only for single-lane traffic, slowing down movement of vehicles. The police have made traffic diversions in the area which will continue till the BMRCL completes the work. Vehicles bound towards Mahatma Gandhi Road have to take alternative roads such as Begum Mahal Road and Gangadhara Chetty Road, Mr. Swamy told The Hindu.

Meanwhile, traffic was affected for some time near Sir Puttanna Chetty Town Hall as Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists took out a rally to celebrate the victory of Kannada candidates in the elections to the Belgaum Corporation.
