Khadi sales target for Deepavali fixed at Rs. 53.50 lakh

Krishnagiri: Khadi and Village Industries Board would offer a 30 per cent discount on khadi and other products for the ensuing Deepavali festival Collector, Santhosh Babu has said.

Participating at the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and celebration of International Day of non-violence here on Tuesday the Collector said that temporary khadi sale outlets had been opened in the panchayat unions of Krishnagiri, Kaveripattinam, Bargur, Mathur, Uthangarai, Veppanapalli, Kelamangalam, Thally, Shoolagiri and Hosur.

For this Deepavali the khadi outlets in the district would offer 30 per cent discount on khadi products, 30 per cent on cash purchase of silk saris, 20 per cent for purchase of silk saris on loans, and 30 per cent discount on polyester clothes.

The products on display include cotton saris, silk yarn, shawls, bedspreads, pillow covers and other silk materials. A sum of Rs.53.50 lakh has been fixed as target for this Deepavali.

The main objective of this fair is to sustain the livelihood of the weavers.

Special sale

The special sale organised during last year’s Deepavali helped in selling Rs.25.83 lakh of khadi and other handloom products. The special sale would be from October 2 to November 8.

Earlier, the Collector administered the pledge on non-violence to officials and elected representatives.

He appealed to Government officials to purchase Khadi products, as lakh of people in the country were dependent on the industry for their livelihood.
