Krishnagiri: Kaveripattinam MLA T. Meghanathan inaugurated the free veterinary camp (Kalnadai Padukappu Thittam) organised by the Department of Animal Husbandry at Balekuli near here on Tuesday.
More than 70 free veterinary camps would be held in the district in the current year. Of this about 67 camps would be conducted in panchayats selected under the Anaithu Gramam Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (AGAMT) he said.
During the camps veterinarians would provide free immunization to cattle and other livestock against bacterial diseases including foot-and-mouth disease and blue tongue disease. Veterinarians would also conduct de-worming, sterilization and artificial insemination he said.
Veterinarians explained to farmers on the adoption of new animal husbandry practices and the schedule of camps in the concerned villages.
More than 1,407 animals were treated in the camp. Tamil Nadu Veterinary University Research Station Professor M. Murugan, Assistant Directors P. Jayaraman and P.J. Balasubramaniam participated.
