VANIYAMBADI: Despite repeated representations, the district administration has failed to fulfil the long pending demand of the residents of Kaadarpettai near here. More than 100 poor families have occupied the Kalmandapam area at Kaadarpettai. Though the families have been residing in the area for over 80 years, the district administration has not issued house site pattas. Social worker M.M.Basheer, who had taken up the issue, told The Hindu that he planned to go submit a petition to Vellore Collector Dharmendra Pratap Yadav on October 3. A century ago Kalmandapam served as a cremation ground. But yet there had been no adequate proof as to whether bodies have been cremated. It was under these circumstances over 100 poor families settled in the area for more than eight decades. Petitions have been handed over to the district administration since 1992 requesting to issue patta to all the occupants. ResolutionsBased on the representation, the Vaniyambadi Municipality had passed a resolution in 1992 and 2001 stating that the Municipality had no objection to issue pattas to all the occupants in the area. Mr. Basheer said the present Vaniyambadi Municipality Commissioner P.Kalyanasundaram had handed over the original copy of the resolution. Even the District Revenue Officer after repeated representations had inspected the spot on September 8, 2007 to recommend to the District Administration for issuing the patta. But there had been no further progress on the issue. “I will not leave unless the district administration hands over the house pattas to all the occupants who live below the poverty line. All the 100 occupants belonged to the minority community,” he pointed out. A resolution on allotting house pattas to the occupants at Kalmandapam passed by the then Municipality on January 9, 2001 said that the Revenue Department should take steps to issue house pattas to all the residents who have occupied the 1.32-acre of the area. Mr. Basheer said that even though the same resolution had been brought to the attention of the Council twice, yet the district administration for reasons best known to them does not consider issuing the house pattas.
