Concern over rising crimes

Staff Reporter

PUDUCHERRY: Lieutenant Governor Mukut Mithi on Monday stressed the need for stern action against criminal gangs to ensure peace in Puducherry.

Expressing his concern over the recent spurt in crimes, Mr Mithi said “no stone should be left unturned in putting an end to heinous crimes.”

Mr Mithi, in his address at the Puducherry Police Raising Day function, said the territorial police had to work in coordination with their counterparts in the neighbouring districts of Tamil Nadu to nab the criminals.

Striking a similar note, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said concerted effort had to be made to prevent the growing incidents of crime and theft.

He said the Government was considering increasing the strength of the police force.

In his address, Inspector General of Police K. Kishan Kumar said the Government had approved its proposal to upgrade Sederapet and Mangalam police out-posts.
