All set for National Film Festival of Kerala

KOLLAM: The screen is set for the fourth National Film Festival of Kerala (NFFK). The festival, organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, will be inaugurated by Minister for Cultural Affairs M.A. Baby at a function at Dhanya Muthoot mini-theatre at 5 p.m. on October 3. Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan will preside over the unction.

A photo exhibition on the seventy-year history of Malayalam cinema, organised in association with the Nana film-weekly, was inaugurated by film producer K. Raveendranathan Nair at the Kadappakada Sports Club hall.

22 films

Twenty two feature films will be screened at Dhanya Muthoot mini-theatre as part of the festival. The film that will be screened at the inaugural function is ‘Parzania’ directed by Rahul Dhaolakia. But prior to the inaugural function, ‘Ankur’ directed by Shyam Benega and ‘Mr. and Mrs. Iyer’ directed by Aparna Sen will be screened at 9 a.m. and 11.45 a.m. respectively.

Four other films by Shyam Benegal will be screened at 9 a.m. from October 4 to 7. The films are ‘Nishanth,’ ‘Bhoomika,’ and ‘Mammo’ in Hindi and ‘Susman’ in Malayalam. The films being screened in the Malayalam category are ‘Karuthapakshikal’ directed by Kamal (4.30 p.m. on October 4), ‘Dristantham’ directed by M.P. Sukumaran Nair (11.30 a.m. on October 5), ‘Pulijanmam’ directed by Priyanandan (4.30 p.m. on October 5), ‘Thakarachenda’ directed by Avira Rebecca (11.45 a.m. on October 6), and ‘Saira’ directed by Dr. Biju (11.45 a.m. on October 7). In addition to this, the eight-minute film ‘Cineku’ directed by Ramachandra Babu will be screened on October 7, before the screening of ‘Saira’.

Five films are being screened in the films by women category. In addition to ‘Mr. and Mrs. Iyer,’ the category features ‘Honeymoon Travels’ (Hindi) directed by Reema Kagti (11.45 a.m. on October 4), ‘Sancharam’ (Malayalam) directed by Ligy J. Pullapally(8.30 p.m. on October 5), ‘Ammu’(Hindi) directed by Shanali Bose (8.30 p.m. on October 6), and ‘Mithr My Friend’(Hindi) directed by Revathi (4.30 p.m. on October 7).

The six films in the Indian film category are, ‘Maati Mai’ (Marathi) directed by Chitra Palekar (6.30 p.m. on October 4), ‘Bheja Fry’ (Hindi) directed by Sagar Bellary (8.30 p.m. on October 4), ‘Bow Barracks Forever’ (English) directed by Anjan Dutta (6.30 p.m. on October 5), ‘Aadumkoothu’(Tamil) directed by T.V. Chandran (4.30 p.m. on October 6), ‘Vanaja’(Telugu) directed by Rajnesh Domalpalli (6.30 p.m. on October 6) and ‘Black Friday’ (Hindi) directed by Anurag Kashyap (6.30 p.m. on October 7).

Malayalam films

In addition to these, there will be a special screening of three Malayalam films at the Kadappakada Sports Club auditorium. These are, ‘AKG’ directed by Shaji N.Karun (October 5), ‘Kaiyyoppu’ directed by Renjith(October 6), and ‘Note Book’ directed by Roshan Andrew (October 7). All the films will be screened at 6.30 p.m. on the respective dates.

Nineteen documentaries and short films are also being screened at the Kadappakada Sports Club auditorium from October 4 to 7. Open forums are being organised on all the days of the festival. At these forums, film lovers can have face-to-face interactions with eminent film personalities attending the festival.
