Peacock sanctuary

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: The declaration of Choolannur in Palakkad district as a peacock sanctuary will probably be the highpoint of this year’s Wildlife Week celebrations.

The declaration will be made by Forest Minister Benoy Viswom in the Choolannur Forest Interpretation Centre on Friday. Electricity Minister A.K. Balan will preside. The Choolannur — Malleswamangalam forest is the main habitat of peacocks in the State.

A workshop on global warming will be held at the Vanasree auditorium in the capital here on Wednesday.

On October 6, the Forest Minister will inaugurate a training programme for mahouts in the Mammen Mappila Hall at Kottayam.

The next day, another workshop on ‘Wildlife conservation in North Kerala and the need for a wildlife sanctuary in Malabar’ will be held at Kozhikode.
