Thiruvananthapuram: The government will try to reorganise the activities of the Khadi and Rural Industries Board in order to create more job opportunities for the rural people. The government would exert pressure on the Union government to extend the changes that had taken place in the other sectors to the khadi sector too, Industries Minister Elamaram Karim said on Tuesday. He was presiding over the inauguration of the golden jubilee celebrations of the board here. Food Minister C. Divakaran, who inaugurated the celebrations, said major changes should be brought about in the sector. There should be a change in the Khadi Commission’s stand too. The cost of production of khadi items should be reduced so that these could compete in the market. The computerisation programme of the board was inaugurated by Mr. Karim.
