Singapore Airlines to operate more flights

Special Correspondent

The new services will be on Boeing 777-200 aircraft

There will be a round-trip offer of Rs. 12,000

Bangalore: Singapore Airlines will have flights linking Bangalore, 10 times a week from October 29 onwards, Foo Chai Woo, General Manager-India said here on Monday. “We operate 52 flights from Singapore to various destinations in India and the market appears to be right for additional flights from Bangalore, with the number of business travellers from this city steadily increasing. Many use Singapore as a hub to fly to the U.S. West Coast and other places,” Mr. Woo said.

The new daylight services will be on Boeing 777-200 aircraft with 12 first, 42 business and 234 economy class seats. Most will depart from Bangalore in the mornings, afternoons or early evenings, so that it is easier to catch connecting flights late the same night or early the next morning to other destinations, Singapore Airlines regional vice-president, Subash Menon, said.

“Most flights from India have an average seat occupancy of up to 80 per cent and the country has seen a 15 per cent annual growth in recent years, in the number of passengers. To mark the additional flights from Singapore, there will be a round-trip offer of Rs. 12,000, including taxes, and discounted tickets to major tourist attractions in Singapore,” Mr. Menon said.

Once the new Bangalore airport becomes operational, more flights are a definite possibility, he added.

Singapore Airlines may be among the first to introduce the Super Jumbo A380 aircraft, which can carry up to 550 passengers and fly non-stop on long hauls.
