S. Radhakrishnan’s visit to the Vidhana Soudha is featured There is one of Indira Gandhi’s at Hidkal Dam
The many photographs on display at Rangamandir in Chitradurga. Chitradurga: A five-day photo exhibition on development works carried out in post-unification Karnataka began here on Tuesday. The exhibition is being organised by Information Department on account of Suvarna Karnataka Mahotsava. As many as 45 meticulously preserved photographs are on display on the Rangamandir premises. Of them, a few are a real treat to the eyes. They include the visit of Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan to the construction site of the Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore. Another black and white photo of former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi laying the foundation stone of Hidkal Dam in Belgaum district is also worth watching. For those who have forgotten the faces of previous Chief Ministers of the State, there is an entire row of 18 photographs on display, including those of the first Chief Minister K.C. Reddy. There is one of the incumbent H.D. Kumaraswamy also. The exhibition also gives statistical information about the population growth between 1951 and 2001. It says that in 1951 the population of the State was over 1.94 crore which has grown five folds by 2001. The literacy rate which was only 24 per cent has increased to 70 per cent. The per capita income which was mere Rs. 230 has shot up to Rs. 17,816. But surprisingly the gender ratio, which was 966 female for 1,000 male, remained almost the same by 2001 when it was 965 female for 1,000 male. Seven photographs of Jnanpith Award recipients are also on display. Besides, the Department of Tourism is displaying over a dozen photographs of archaeological monuments of Chitradurga district. District Information Officer Maheshwarayya said that the aim is to showcase the significant development works that have taken place in the State after unification.
