BANGALORE: The release of eight books “Gandhians in our Midst” and launching of a postgraduate diploma in Gandhian studies marked the celebrations of Gandhi Jayanti in Bangalore University on Tuesday. The chief guest of the day, Gandhian Puttathimmaiah, popularly called “Madhugiri Gandhi” released the books brought out by the Prasaranga of the University as a part of series by the Centre for Gandhian Studies, Bangalore University. The personalities and movements featured included Dr. H. Narasimhaiah written by M. Leelavathi, principal, The National College, Basavanagudi; Samaanateyinda Bhinnateyedege (women’s movement in India) by Sudha Seetharaman, professor, Government Arts College; J.C. Kumarappa by S.R. Keshav Hegde, senior lecturer, Bangalore University; Yashodharamma Dasappa by Siddagangamma, Rural Development Centre, Bangalore University; Medha Patkar by M. Shashidhar, lecturer, Bangalore University; G. Narayana by T. Padma, a research fellow in Kannada University, Hampi; Kadidal Shamanna by Honnali Chandrashekhar, sub-editor, Kannada Prabha, Shimoga, and Mali Mariyappa by M.L. Narasimhamurthy, retired principal, T.V. Venkataswamy College, Madhugiri. Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath and the Director of Centre for Gandhian Studies, Bangalore University, D. Jeevan Kumar were present.
