Kabir Puraskar for Gufran

NEW DELHI: The Kabir Puraskar for this year will be conferred on Khalifa Gufran of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh for promoting communal harmony. By his timely intervention in a Dalit-Muslim scuffle in Saharanpur last year, Mr. Gufran had helped the district administration in checking the spread of communal tension and violence in the city.

Again in November last and this March, he restored peace and normality in a locality where Hindus and Muslims were indulging in stone pelting.

“In the past also, Khalifa Gufran has been taking active part in promoting communal harmony and proactively assisting the administration in maintain peace and communal harmony during Hindu-Muslim festivals,” an official release of the Home Ministry said here on Tuesday.

Kabir Puraskar is a national award that recognises acts of physical and moral courage displayed by a member of one caste, community or ethnic group in saving the lives and properties of another caste.
