Lack of staff delays minor irrigation schemes

Sangareddy: Even as Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy announced Rs. 100 crore for the development and repairs of minor irrigation tanks in two phases in Medak district, delay in the appointment of assistant engineers, deputy executive engineers by the Irrigation Department has affected implementation of the projects.

With the Government releasing Rs. 70.60 crore to take up 1229 works in the district recently, the Ministers and legislators belonging to the district met Principal Secretary Ajay Jain in Hyderabad and asked him to depute sufficient number of officers to speed up the process.

The demand for shifting of the Pranahita-Chevella circle office to the Medak district headquarters has gained momentum following delay in complying with the directions of the Chief Minister to do so. The people’s representatives have been demanding the Irrigation Department to shift the office as development works in Nizamabad under the project could even be reviewed from here itself.
